Volunteer Corner
We have a number of community service initiatives on our plate for this non-election year. One of them is to continue to register new voters. Over the past year, we managed to turn La Mesa from a majority of republican voters to a majority of democratic voters. We have a slim lead, but we need to grow it in La Mesa as well as the rest of the county. If you would like to volunteer to register voters, please call Garry Armacost at (619) 741-1994, or (619) 787-4219 to set up a time and date.
Go-Team
In 2004, the San Diego County Democratic Party initiated a Neighbor-to-Neighbor program, known as the Grassroots Organizing Team (GO-Team). GO-Team volunteers receive specialized training to become Precinct Leaders in their own neighborhoods. During the 2006 and 2008 elections, precincts with an active GO-Team member increased Democratic turnout by seven percent! The GO-Team's goals are: to increase Democratic registration, increase the number of Permanent Mail Voters, Increase voter turnout, and to ELECT DEMOCRATS. During the 2008 election, GO-Team members in the east area contacted voters in more than 2,000 precincts and distributed voter information to nearly 20,000 voters.
To ge involved in this exciting program, contact the East Area Co-Regional Coordinators, Linda Armacost at (619) 741-1994 or email her at larmacost@cox.net, or Arlene Howe at (619) 464-0369 or e-mail her at ajljhowe@aol.com.
San Diego Food Bank
We are also focused on becoming more visible in our local communities through volunteer efforts like supporting the SD Food Bank through our Virtual Food Drive, school reading programs, and more.
