President’s Message

It is an honor and privilege to be the President of the La Mesa-Foothills Democratic club. With more than300 members, LMFDC is the second largest club in San Diego County. Our meetings averages 80 attendees, and joint meetings with local clubs have exceeded 350. We are blessed with active, committed members who are involved in a wide range of community events. Our members regularly participate in voter registration efforts, festivals, parades, rallies, and volunteer efforts that assist local residents.
For the first time, because of our members’ hard work and dedication, Democrats are now the majority party in the city of La Mesa. San Diego County also turn blue in 2008 for the first time in 25 years. We are proud that a high percentage of our members are volunteers with the San Diego County Democratic Party’s Grassroots Organizing Team.
LMFDC hosts knowledgeable speakers on issues important to the community and the country. Past speakers include: best selling authors John W. Dean and Jeremy Skahill, noted Economist, Alan Gin, Business Reporter, Dean Calbreath, Law Professor and Author, Marjorie Cohn. Our monthly newsletter keeps members up-to-date with important events and meeting information. Our members receive regular emails that highlight critical issues and offer opportunities to take action on important measures.
Acknowledging the adage “all politics is local,” LMFDC is committed to helping President Barack Obama rebuild our country by building a Blue Team right here in the East County area. Our goals leading up to the 2010 elections include: electing a Democrat to the U.S. House of Representatives in the 52nd District, increasing Democratic voter registration, increased GO-Team participation, recruiting, training, and electing Democrats to local offices such as city councils, school boards, water boards, and planning boards. We are also focused on becoming more visible in our local communities through volunteer efforts like supporting the SD Food Bank through our Virtual Food Drive, school reading programs, and more.
I invite you to join us at one of our meetings. We meet the first Wednesday of every month at the La Mesa Community Center, 4975 Memorial Drive in La Mesa. We begin with a social time at 6:30 p.m., and the meeting begins promptly at 7 p.m. You will find that spending time with like-minded individuals who share our Democratic values is enlightening and fun.
We have a unique, time-sensitive opportunity to build on the amazing grassroots efforts that President Obama utilized during his historic Presidential campaign. We can and must take our country back! Restoring the United States of America won’t be easy, yet, by pulling together for a greater cause, we can succeed. Be part of the effort to build a Blue Team today!
